Value Stream Mapping (VSM)
Summary
Also known as a Products/Quantities Diagram, the Pareto Analysis is a tool used in value stream mapping; it acts as an objective selection instrument for the workgroup. Sometimes this is not immediately obvious; we may find that we are interested in analyzing products that take the most of our time or are the most frustrating to deal with.
Objectives
This tool allows us to collect the right information and let the data tell us which product(s) to analyze.
Summary of Steps
- At the top of the form mark the date
- Begin listing your products with unit volumes
- Choose an appropriate unit measure that will illustrate the differences in product volumes effectively
- Initial documentation will have the data scattered; reorganize it on a new form with the largest quantities to the left
