Summary
A map used to provide reference of the standard work that is enforced in the work cell, including quality and safety checkpoints. It also includes important benchmarking metrics to be checked against (Takt Time, Cycle Time, etc.)
Objectives
Provide a bird’s eye perspective of an area to communicate to others outside the workshop a detailed standard work map at a glance.
Summary of Steps
- Go to the office, process, or gemba (the place the work is done) that you want to document
- At the top, document the description of operation, the date recorded, revision if applicable, creators name, and finally from what process to what process
- Create a bird’s eye sketch of the area
- Use the given symbols to add detail **Include operators standard work location
- Quality check point (diamond)
- Used situationally when a point in the process either needs extra attention to quality from operators or a quality check is performed by the autonomation
- Safety check point (medic symbol)
- Used situationally when a point in the process needs extra attention from operators due to a possibly dangerous situation
- Standard WIP inventory (circle with diagonal lines)
- Used to illustrate standard WIP in a given location
- Quality check point (diamond)
- Record and document:
- Standard WIP (work in process)
- Takt Time
- Cycle Time
- Employees involved
- Use the given symbols to add detail **Include operators standard work location
