Determining the skills that need to be taught is key to effective training

A number of companies are looking to adopt the principles of Kaizen to help bolster efficiency and reduce costs. However, before Lean policies can be implemented, the company will need to be retrained to think in this mindset from the bottom up.

In that regard, effective training materials are a must. As Tech Republic notes, it's pivotal that companies develop a skills-oriented training program to help employees learn how to incorporate these new procedures. Figuring out which skills are important will enable companies to create these training initiatives.

“Figure out the skills” that should be taught, the news source advises. “Write an outline of the specific skills you intend to teach and prioritize those skills in the order they should be taught.”

“From your outline, organize the skills you need to teach into sets of steps,” Tech Republic adds. “These groups should provide enough material for two-hour training increments, including an assessment at the end.”

There are a variety of tools that can be used to carry out this training, ranging from books to presentations. The important part is that these materials teach the key skills that need to be learned.
