WhatTheyThink, a printing and paper industry blog, recently announced the winners of its fourth annual environmental innovation awards to recognize companies within the sector that practice green and sustainable manufacturing.
Premier Press in Portland, Oregon, was one of the companies acknowledged at WhatTheyThink's award ceremony. What makes Premier Press unique from the other winners is the extent of its sustainability efforts, and it actually won the “Beyond Environmental Sustainability” category because of this. The plant operates 100 percent on wind power, and also practices Lean manufacturing processes to help minimize its environmental impact.
“[Premier Press'] sustainability committee – which includes its CEO, president and COO – regularly reviews its progress and programs, and seeks out room for improvement. It has implemented Lean manufacturing processes and make environmental impact a part of our decision making criteria for purchases,” the news source adds.
Environmental issues have recently become a hot spot among both consumers and politicians, so many companies are now investigating ways to become green without sacrificing efficiency.
