James Fazzino, chief of Australian fertilizer company Incitec, recently discovered the benefits of Lean manufacturing and is in the process of rolling the practice out to all of the business' operations, The Australian reports.
Fazzino was quick to point out that the Australian government could do a lot to help the struggling manufacturing sector, but ultimately he realizes he can only control what is happening within his own company. This is why he investigated ways to improve his own business and how he came across Lean manufacturing.
Fertilizers are Incitec's primary product, but Fazzino is also looking to other markets as well to bolster both the company's value and the quality of its end product for consumers. Regardless of which industries Incitec enters, Lean processes will be key in helping the company maintain profitability while producing high-quality goods.
“Once you establish a culture of continuous improvement, the cycle is self-reinforcing,” he told the news source.
It's important to realize that Kaizen is a mindset that can be applied to multiple areas of a company, and not just a means to improve manufacturing. This will help companies improve the quality of their products.
